iTunes music store opens in Australia - finally!
It's taken a while for me blog this, but it's still worth mentioning...
After years of waiting Apple launches iTunes in Australia, which means Australians can purchase songs for download to their iPods. We couldn't before - the US site required a U.S. credit card.
The significance for the CTN project is that this will result in more of an uptake of iPods and other MP3 players which can then be used for audio lessons. It also means podcasting will become more popular and well known in Australia, because of iTune's built in podcasting directory.
On the 1st November it was also reported that within 20 days of Apple launching the new Video iPod and the accompanying service within iTunes selling music videos, animations and TV show episodes, over one million videos had been bought and downloaded (at US$2 per pop!). This suggests that videocasting will take on sooner than I thought, and means the educational applications of videocasting won't be far behind.
The iTunes music store podcasting directory includes videocasts, so there is a mainstream distribution channel there for videocasts already.
